The author traces the origin of the idioms, provides Bible verses and stories and that relate, and guides the reader to see and learn more about God based on the stories. Childhood stories as well as a few from her adult life add to the readability.

This is the third in a series of devotional books by Linda Gainey Smock in which she uses idioms to guide her thoughts as she shares spiritual lessons she's learned in daily devotional thoughts. No matter how they are used in “your neck of the woods,” if you listen closely to newscasters, talk show hosts, or even your friends, you’ll find them being used as if they are a “dime a dozen.” You may even hear them “through the grapevine.”
Hopefully the author “saved the best for last” as she developed more devotionals using idioms and scriptures to create everyday lessons. The author does not” pull the wool over your eyes” but allows you to see clearly into what she is thinking. She doesn’t claim to “have it in the bag” but knows she’s a sinner saved by grace, needing the mercy and love of God. Her cup is half full, and she’s thankful to just have a cup.
